BUSINESS - able-bodied peoploe who no longer produce anything is a bad business model. by 2007 GM was paying 340,000 UAW pensioners but employing only 73,000 UAW workers.

HEALTH - (who killed health care (2007) - regina herlinger why do many hospitals and other health-care providers oppose letting..people know the price of the medical services we use and the results doctors and hospitals achieve? sunshine is the best disinfectant. providers fear that they will be victims of transparency. after all, the only ones who will benefit are those who achieve higher quality at better price. US health care broken - we spend 40% more as a percentage of GDP, as the next highest-spending country and yet over 300k people are killed by hospital errors every few years...problem is that individuals do not control health care. insurers, service providers, the govt can use our money without being responsible for the results achieved..no accountability...congress has not enabled transparency..more responsive to status quo providers /insurers who want to squash accountability. congress sets prices-not free market. govt pays mostly for surgical/medical interventions. so if doctors develop a new service that will keep sick people healthier, they will lose $...without choice, there is no competition. without competition, there is no incentive for productivity...a tax shelter for the purchase of health insurance would dramatically transform this situation and enable consumer-driven health care. worldmag 1.17.09 p23

EDUCATION - loye young, professor at texas A&M warned students that he would flunk /expose anyone caught 'lying, cheating, stealing..when he followed thru he was fired...'people here are being told that students should be babied and that we need to keep 'em to get enrollment and state funding..i wnat students to actually know something'. p28

RELIGION - greenberg quinlan rosner survey conducted for religion and ethics news weekly 9,08 found that 58% of white evangelicals 18-29 support either gay marriage or civil unions. over 30 46% worldmag 1.31.09 p50

SMUGGLING BIBLES - into china, 'i don't agree with the theory that we shouldn't do anything that's illegal. if you took that doctrine to its logical conclusion, much of the world would not have been evangelized.' david aikman ct,2.09,p14

CULTURE - myth is a story that gives ultimate meaning...need for a serious analysis and response to culture ie. evolution is not the benevolent operating principle of the entire universe and technological transformation of our species is not spiritual rebirth. ignorance is not our predicament, progress is not redemption, the future is not salvation and space is not our destiny. p21

GOVT - instead of spending for economic bailout, cut tax rates in lowest income brackets i for small business.

EDUCATION - certification revolution..ie. microsoft..the educational testing service decides that it's going to get into the certification business and creat the gold-standart test for certification in computer programming. .develops a test which micosoft agrees (collaborates in the making of/ tweaks to their exact situation?) really is predictive..if a kid gets a high score..he is a crakerjack programmer whom microsoft will hire... worldmag 2.14.09 p 23 what about site certification/apprenticeship?

GOVT - 11 trillion about to become 13 trillion debt worldmag 2.28.09 p6 ... 650 million for analog-to-digital tv in june (already 1.3 billion spent by govt), 1 billion for 2010 census, 300 million to combat domestic violence, 158 mil for national parks operations, 100 mil for led-reduction in low income housing, 25 mil for substance abuse on indian reservations p46 66 bil for education..rushed thru without time to read...welfare, a poverty trap, is increased..unclear how $ will actually be spent (a shell game)

GOVT - calvin adopted luthers two kingdoms theory church and state separate and distinct spheres to foster liberty. for every duty God imposes, whether spiritual or temporal, there is a corresponding freedom that is required. if we are commanded to give our families material support, for example, ecomomic feedom and the right to private property are essential. if we are torest on the sabbath, we must have the liberty to stop woring and not be perpetually at the beck of employers. it is the duty of rulers to protect those liberties so the commands may be obeyed. when this happens believers can give public manifestation of their faith. lex rex traced back to II sam.5.3 'all the elders of israel came to the king at hebron and king david made a covenant with them at hebron before the Lord and they anointed david king over israel'. rutherford found that notion repeated throughout scripture ct,3.09,p40

VALUES - UN convention on the rights of the child pushes child autonomy by asserting that children can be controlled by the state or stated another way children need to be protected from the family..this treaty not yet ratified by the US..the 18 member committee 'interprets' the treaty which it has called 'a living instrument, whose interpretation develops over time'..the US is now moving toward ratification worldmag,3.28.09,p49

US IMMORAL INFLUENCE - 'when america sneezes, the whole world catches a cold'..daniel deng bul, archbishop of sudan, said,'we refect homosexual practice as contrary to biblical teaching and can accept no place for it within ECS (the episcopal church of sudan.)..christians in sudan are called infidels by the islamic world when they hear our brothers and sisters from the christian world talking about same-sex (relationships) to be blessed'. p53
