oh Lord help me! keep me in a place where i am able to hear Your voice...not only every day!...but all throughout the day!!
i have been trying to nurse the 24 cold weather plants that, God willing will be my food in the fall and on through the winter. the intense heat has been causing them to 'stand still' and several have been one by one losing their leaves. i have taken to watering them in the evenings when it doesn't rain (most)..a 5 gallon bucket full..and last night there were two..again which were lying prostrate on the ground with no green evident on their little emaciated bodies. i kept returning to them and even slowly poured a full extra pitcher on the two of them. this am, tiny bit of green..one little green leaf poking up out of the seemingly dead, withered bones of their home..another full pitcher between them.
as i left them the thought came about the Lord saying through isaiah, 'HO, EVERYONE WHO THIRSTS, COME TO THE WATERS...(55.1)..then, speaking of the man that meditates on the word day and night while at the same rejecting all other influences..'walking in the counsel of the wicked..standing in the path of sinners..sitting in the seat of the scornful'...in other words rejecting everything that is said in this world as any means of guidance about what to do, how to live...such a person
WILL BE LIKE A TREE FIRMLY PLANTED BY STEAMS OF WATER
WHICH YIELDS ITS FRUIT IN ITS SEASON
AND ITS LEAF DOES NOT WITHER
AND IN WHATEVER HE DOES, HE PROSPERS. (PSALM 1.1-3)
Lord, thank You so much for giving me Your word as well as Your creation which is telling of You, which 'day to day pours forth speech and night to night reveals knowledge'... everywhere (psalm 19.2)....'because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. for since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse...(romans 1 19-20). oh dear Lord...in this case help me drink deeply the simple truth whose words came from those little, tiny, almost dead, struggling plants. if i drink of You...if You, to me, are Life..and all other things and people are drought...IF I DRINK OF YOU I HAVE LIFE, if, for whatever reason i don't-a dull, a dead heart to You, the attraction of false waters, etc- i will die..just as that little plant. OR i will live, no matter how near complete death i am, if i drink of You. oh precious Lord, seal that truth to my heart so that i live in such a way that i LIVE.
You said to the woman at the well of samaria,
'everyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that i shall give him SHALL NEVER THIRST; but the water that i shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life. john 4. 13,4
'now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying,
'IF ANY MAN IS THIRSTY, LET HIM COME TO ME and drink He who believes in Me, as the scripture said, 'from his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water'.' john 7.37,8
Give me this thirst, Lord, that You may become all in all to me and FLOW OUT to the desert around.
'for My people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken Me
the fountain of living waters
to hew for themselves cisterns
broken cisterns
that can hold no water. jeremiah 2.13
this is me Lord, apart from You. fill me to overflowing so that i seek nothing outside You alone and what You have for me.
