12.21.2013 EVAN ROBERTS

on 31 october 1904 evan rovberts, brought up in the moreah calvinistic methodist church in wales,
came home his church in loughor to begin the work of renewal among the congregation's youth.

the four conditions of blessing that R claimed the Spirit had revealed, namely
1.separation from all known sin
2. renunciation of all things that wer morally dubious
3. immediate obedience to the promptings of the holy Spirity
4. public confession of Christ,
became the basis for his mission
and by the end of the week dramatic scenes of quite exceptional emotional power
were drawing unprecedented congrfegations.

..invitations soon came for him to lead missions throughout wales.
..his verve, youthfuloness, attractive personality and patent sincerity
were effective means of popularizing the revival cause.

...he left for liverpool on 28 march 1905
to lead his next (fourth) mission, which had been organized by tghe city's welsh churches.
it was here that the near clairvoyant tendency that had already become
such a marked feature of his minsitry was given full rein.
he would claim regularly during the next fornight
that he knew by divine intuition of particular individuals' specific sins
and of their need to repent openly in order for his meetings to continue.
these claims cause some consternation,
though there was ample evidence of scores of people professing conversion or renewed consecration.
the physical manifestations of R's deepening agonies of spirit
caused his hosts to become seriously worried about his psychological health
and following medical advice he took a month's rest..to recuperate and plan ahead...

..by the summer of 1905 R had become more wary of overt emotionalism
and no longer spoke of the four 'conditions' of revival;
in fact his theological emphasis was moving from the subjective workings of the Holy Spirit
to the objective content of the atoning work of Christ.

..his 8th and final mission between 4-18 january 1906..

note: i am told that there were 100,000 conversions reported from this revival...have to check more..
